Banners (or streamers) were the first advertising format to be created on the Internet (27 October 1994 on the Hotwired search engine) and are the most widespread advertising medium on the Internet today. Often featured at the top of web pages, these clickable rectangles are 468 pixels long and 60 pixels wide..
The 468x60 banner has been the market standard for some time. Other standards were created at the start of 2001 (88x31, 120x60, 160x600, 250x250, etc.) and have been accepted at international level by the IAB.
Banners can be animated or still, integrate sound and video and convey all types of messages. However, the display time must be extremely limited in order to avoid disrupting navigation. |
